Breaking down “Academy Life”

This week I started by breaking down “Academy Life” into different areas I wanted to explore. This helped me figure out what topics would highlight both the intense training and the daily routine at the academy. I also created a list of questions to guide my research. Some of the main topics I’m focusing on are:

  • Training routines and techniques
  • Mental challenges of being an athlete
  • Profiles of coaches and players
  • The academy’s history

To get a better understanding of what works, I looked at sports magazines with similar themes online. This gave me ideas about layout, content balance, and how to engage the audience. I noticed how they used visuals, like action shots and player profiles, and how the content flowed from cover to cover. This analysis showed me where I could stand out by focusing on the unique aspects of academy life. I’m hoping to attract as many ads as these magazines do! I got curious, so I asked AI what the magazine should look like (the photo below here).

It wasn’t great, and I think I can do better myself. But it was fun to see it as a finished product!

This week has been fun to work on the magazine. I’ve discovered some great resources, gathered ideas from competitor magazines, and refined my vision for “Academy Life.” The magazine concept feels clearer and stronger now, and I’m even more excited for what’s ahead!

To wrap up the week, I chose images with bold colors and dynamic poses to set the tone for the design. The headline (or masthead) will definitely be in yellow.

Stay tuned for next week as I start shaping the magazine’s structure and planning the table of contents!
